Charlottesville’s Farmer’s Markets – 2015
Now that spring has arrived and we’re safely in April, and away from any kind of snow-related event (fingers crossed!), it’s time to turn our thoughts to what new items the local Farmer’s Markets will start bringing our way.
Most area residents are familiar with Charlottesville’s Downtown – or City – Market, which traditionally has been held in the Water Street parking lot. With the recent acquisition of the parking lot by a local businessman there have been many questions about its fate.
As of now, the parking lot is still open. City Market offers fresh produce, herbs, plants, grass fed meats, crafts and baked goods from local vendors every Saturday, from April – December. The market features over 100 vendors every Saturday morning. SNAP customers customers can redeem their benefits at the market for fresh produce. No Pets Allowed.

The Crozet Market is a growers and producers market, providing vendors the opportunity to sell their locally grown produce and handcrafted goods to the public. New vendors are welcome. Proceeds from vendor fees are returned to the community through an annual donation to the Crozet United Methodist Church food pantry. Last year $750 was raised for the pantry.
The market offers a variety of locally grown vegetables, bedding plants, vegetable starts, cut flowers, homemade baked goods, handcrafted jewelry, woodcrafts and pottery. The market also offers the Horticulture Help Desk, staffed by volunteer Piedmont Master Gardeners every second and fourth Saturday of the season. HHD staff can answer questions about horticultural practices, pest control and plant diseases, with aim of safeguarding consumers and the environment against adverse effects. Bring samples of pests or problem plants.
