Back To School Charlottesville
It seems like only yesterday that local kids were getting out of school for the summer holidays, and now, school has already begun in Greene, Louisa and Nelson counties, and will begin this week for Charlottesville, Albemarle, Monticello and Western on Wednesday, August 21.
UVA will also get in on the action with Move In Days on Friday, August 23, and Saturday, August 24.
We want to take the time to remind drivers that local school buses will start making their early morning runs and to always stop when you see flashing red lights and the stop sign extended. If you are on a divided highway that does not have a median, you must stop.
NOW is the time to buy a house
Even though school has begun, what many people may not know is that late August and early September are the very best times to buy a dream home.
Prospective home buyers will find a greater number of price cuts during these temperature-hot months, giving them better odds of finding that perfect home.
This means it might be easier to negotiate prices and perhaps even snag a lower price if the property stays on the market for a prolonged period of time.
Although inventory remains low in the city of Charlottesville, the surrounding counties have many interesting properties and lower taxes, so they are worth a look.
The rental market is hot
A new trend to watch is builders creating rental communities along with homes and townhouses for new buyers. Many people who can afford a home may decide that home ownership is just not for them so would prefer having the amenities, but none of the upkeep.
As you drive around town, it’s easy to spot the large apartment buildings sprouting up on West Main Street and near Stonefield and the Hollymead Town Center. Seminole Square is also jumping into the community residential market, although we may not see any actual buildings there for a little while yet.
New Skating Rink to arrive by late Spring
For those of you who are missing the Downtown Ice Skating Rink, this will be great news – a new skating rink is expected to be completed in the new Brookhill development off of Route 29 by May 2020, thanks to the nonprofit Friends of Charlottesville Ice Park.
Happy Back to School!
